Sharanalayam starting `retirement community centre'

Sharanalayam, a home providing shelter to orphaned children at Kinathukadavu, will set up a `retirement community centre' for senior citizens. Construction is under progress on three acres of land on the Pollachi highway."It is not merely an `old age home' or a `senior citizens shelter.' It is a place where elders can choose to spend the rest of their lives with freedom and independence," says N.Vanitha, chairperson of Sharanalayam.

Even those who have crossed 50 and are in need of good medical care and quality time to themselves can take up residence at the centre, she adds.Named `Preetham,' the centre can accommodate 100 people. In an area of 40,000 sq ft, it will include a swimming pool, facilities for outdoor games, yoga and dancing clubs, Ayurveda centre and halls for meditation and for conducting spiritual discourse. It will provide 24-hour medical assistance to the residents. The fees will be minimal and the profit made from the centre will go to Dhaya, Sharanalayam's rehabilitation centre for destitute children and women. The children at Dhaya will be taken to the centre on all weekends.
